“What if the Bible wasn’t just a collection of random stories but a cohesive journey revealing God’s heart and purpose for His children? Over the years, I discovered a theme that runs like a golden thread throughout the Bible. I wasn’t looking for anything groundbreaking—just a straightforward way to understand God’s Word without getting bogged down in exhaustive details. Navigating the Divine is a simple yet profound approach that kept me focused on the main points found throughout Scripture, helping me see the bigger picture of God’s relentless love and plan to bring His family back home. In this book, I share how this discovery transformed my perspective, revealing how every part of the Bible, from God’s covenant with Abraham to the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus, fits together into one incredible story of redemption offered to all mankind. Whether you’re new to the Bible or have studied it for years, this journey will open your eyes to the deeper meaning of God’s Word and invite you to experience a life-changing relationship with Him.”

I highly recommend Navigating the Devine. It will not only bless your understanding of the Bible, but will give you an easy framework to explain it to others. Well done Rex and Lois Burgher.

What an amazingly succinct synopsis of the Bible and how to understand it. Rex and Lois, here, as in all their writings, help people connect with the Father’s loving heart, the motive behind all of God’s dealings with us. Every new believer should be handed a bible and this book.

You may have seen various charts and diagrams categorizing the books of the old and new testaments. This little book is not that. Its a personal, even homey, travelogue through the bible. “Thematic”, as in “thematic overview” simply means “relating to a theme” and the theme of the bible is the story of God’s creating and redeeming His “fallen” humanity.

God’s covenant with Abraham is highlighted as the activating force, if you would, of God’s actions in bringing forth the savior Jesus as the sacrificial lamb of God for the payment of our sins. The Burghers clearly identify the significance of each of God’s three promises to Abraham as they are fulfilled through the generations. For me, seeing the centuries go by magnified the reality of the unending mercy of God towards Israel, and, by extension, all of us!

In summary, the Burghers present a fresh look at the biblical story framed by the loving actions of a heavenly father. IMO it should be a part of every church’s “New Convert” class. It also provides a fresh look at the Bible for us older converts. And do not forget those who are wondering what Christianity and the bible is all about. Someone you know needs this book!

Can reading a 49-page book on what the Bible is all about mean you don’t need to read the Bible itself? Of course not! In fact, after reading Navigating the Divine, you’ll want to read the Bible even more because you’ll have a head start on what it all means and a better idea how each part you are reading fits into God’s whole plan for His creation, which includes you. I wish I had had this book 50 years ago when I first got serious about the things of the Lord. The “Description” page on the website is an excellent introduction to what you can expect. This is a gem of a book, and I highly recommend it.

      Dear Walt,
Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful review of Navigating the Divine. Your words were not only encouraging but deeply affirming of the heart behind why we wrote this book. To hear that it stirred a renewed desire to engage with Scripture and brought clarity to God’s overarching plan means more than we can express.

Your reflection—especially the line, “I wish I had had this book 50 years ago”—truly touched us. It’s our prayer that readers of all ages will be drawn into the beauty of the Word and discover their place in God’s unfolding story. Thank you for recommending it so wholeheartedly.

      With deep appreciation,
      Rex & Lois Burgher
