I have been taken back many times to the wonderment of the words of the music that resounded in my spirit as I awakened from the brain tumor surgery and in the days after, that I experienced less than six months ago now. “What can wash away my sin, nothing but the blood of Jesus, what can make me whole again, nothing but the blood of Jesus. How precious is the flow that makes me white as snow, no other fount I know nothing but the blood of Jesus!”
I am amazed that this would be the song left in my spirit that would sustain and wash over me through this time in my life. I sang this song for most of my early years and remembered the lump in my throat as I would go to the altar to receive His forgiveness and mercy. I loved His presence so much even then and will always be glad for my early upbringing in that holiness Free Methodist church. I recently heard this song being sung at the end of the Mercy/Elevation and Maverick City worship. It still captures my heart as I marvel at His mercy and goodness. I’m alive to tell the story of His great mercy and the power of His blood!
It is His blood and resurrection power that cleanses and heals every area of our being and makes us truly “whole.” Through my experience of having the surgery to remove the tumor and its aftereffects, His great love has continually overwhelmed my heart and spirit. I am humbled by His increased presence and the great mercy He has shown to forgive my sins – even again!
The message that He has renewed within me is that this must be spoken and said to the multitudes. His great love for us is beyond compare, and His arms are open wide to all who come with humble repentance to receive His precious gift of life in abundance here on earth and eternally in heaven.
In all this, I am reminded of the Holy Spirit drawing me back in conviction to the verse that spoke to my wayward heart and brought me to my knees before Him many years ago. 1 John 4:18-19 says “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. We love Him because He first loved us.” You see, He loved us first! Not because we deserve it but because of who He is! He is love made manifest itself in that while we were yet sinners, He died for us so that we may receive His forgiveness and be cleansed and made whole. His sacrifice for our sin and resurrection made the way back into our Father’s open arms and presence. It is in Him that we live and breathe and have life eternally. Yes, Jesus Christ of Nazareth is the famous one!
He was made famous by fulfilling and finishing the covenant made by God with Abraham that He would make them a great nation and bless the entire world, both Jew and Gentile, through Abraham’s seed or offspring. Genesis 12:3
He is the Messiah, the famous one, He was born of a virgin conceived by the Holy Spirit, and He is the promised anointed one, the Son of the living God co-equal with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as one. John 1:1, 2, 4, 14, “In the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.” The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
He was made famous by becoming the precious spotless lamb of God who was slain and whose blood was shed and given on our behalf for the sacrifice of our sins. John 1:29
He was made famous by His stripes that bring healing to our entire body, mind, and spirit and truly make us whole! Isaiah 53:5
He was made famous by the veil being torn in two after His death on the cross that made the way back into the presence of God available to all who will come and receive His precious gift of abundant life and eternal love. Luke 23: 44-46.
He was made famous by His resurrection on the third day and appearing to His disciples for 40 days before He ascended into heaven as He was taken up and a cloud received Him out of their sight. Acts 1:9
This is the most important story to give to our children, children’s children, and every generation. His faithfulness and great love will never go to the discontinued button but is forever and beyond our understanding of time.
One of the most common arguments I hear is that God does not care as He “lets bad things happen to us, and a God of love would not allow that.” I do not have the answers except to say that God gave man freedom of choice, and there will be things that we will not understand that happen in this earthly life. This is what He does promise in John 16:33 He says this “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” And He has a place beyond our comprehension prepared for those who love Him. John 14:2 “In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”
We recently watched the movie ‘The Hiding Place.’ If I had seen it before, it was many years ago. Her story is so incredible about God’s heart for all and puts that argument of what we need to remember when we cannot understand why God would allow hardships and injustice and pain. I was overwhelmed by the evilness of man in watching the story. Corrie was released from sure death at the prison camp because of a mistaken notice to release her and several others (a sheer miracle of God). One of her responses was this “There is no pit so deep that God’s love is not deeper still” Corrie traveled with her story of His great love for 33 years and to 60 nations. Before the ten Boom family were taken from their home in Holland by the Nazi’s they were reading this scripture which I will leave with all of us now. Romans 8:38-39 “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Yes, I am alive to tell you the greatest story ever told! It is our prayer that if you do not know Him that you will receive Him now as His arms are open wide, waiting with His mercy to forgive your sin and set you free. “There is no pit so deep that God’s love is not deeper still!”
Happy Resurrection Day!
