Unlocking the Power of Wisdom in Perilous Times

We must strive to understand that there is a difference between wisdom from the world and wisdom from above. In 1 Cor. 12:8, ‘wisdom’ is listed as a spiritual gift supernaturally imparted to us through the Holy Spirit.  In James 3:15 it says this about earthly wisdom, “This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.” Later in James 3:17, he says, “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.” AI (artificial intelligence) is increasing at an expediential rate.  Daniel 12:4 says that ‘knowledge shall increase,’ which is exactly what is happening with the advent of ChatGPT.  If you thought the last few years were difficult to know if something was real or fake, it will only exponentially worsen as we get closer to the ’End of Days,’  Which is why we must get our wisdom from the right source so we may discern that which is from above from that which is earthly, unspiritual and demonic.  We must understand the moral implications of any decision or action we take, because, failing to do so can lead to a negative outcome with devasting long-lasting effects.

In the scriptures, wisdom refers to a supernatural understanding of Biblical events that will give us wisdom concerning the course of action that will be pleasing to God. When God promises us wisdom, he promises a way of life superior to the way of the world. He guarantees that through his gift of wisdom, you and I will find good, acceptable, and perfect ways of walking with God. Wisdom is acquired through our efforts to learn, grow, and study. It’s not automatic, and it’s not instantaneous.  We are entering a Kairos time in the history of mankind in which it is imperative that God’s children begin to diligently seek the wisdom that can only come from our Heavenly Father. Proverbs 2:10-11 says, “When wisdom enters your heart, And knowledge is pleasant to your soul, Discretion will preserve you; Understanding will keep you,”

The Bible speaks of wisdom numerous times throughout the scriptures. Proverbs 1:7 states that “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” which implies that we must honor and obey Him in order to gain understanding.  It reflects a deep respect for God and His Word that encourages us to seek after His truth. Additionally, having a reverence for God helps us to be humble and teachable, which enables us to comprehend His teachings and live in accordance with His will. Furthermore, the fear of the Lord encourages us to stay in the word and be close to His heart, which is essential for obtaining true wisdom.

The best way to ask God for wisdom is to approach Him with humility and sincerity. Prayer is the most direct way to seek His guidance and understanding. The Bible tells us to “cry out for insight and raise our voice for understanding.” (Proverbs 2:3) This means that we should earnestly seek and ask that He shed light on any situation that may come before us so we can respond with Godly wisdom and insight. Only by reading the Scriptures, meditating on His Word, and spending time in prayer, can we better understand His will.

The Bible often refers to wisdom as a course of action that leads to righteousness. Throughout the scriptures, God encourages us to choose wisdom over foolishness because it will ultimately lead us on a path of righteousness and peace. (Proverbs 2:11-15; 10:23). Wisdom is described as “more precious than rubies” (Proverbs 3:15) since it can bring us closer to God and help us live a life of joy and prosperity. Furthermore, Proverbs 4:7 states that walking in the path of wisdom is how we can “make straight paths for your feet.

Four Principals for Gaining WISDOM

1. Humbly seek knowledge and understanding. A humble spirit enables us to acknowledge our limits and recognize our total reliance on God. The Bible tells us to “humble ourselves before the Lord, and He will lift us up.” (James 4:10). In other words, if we come to God with humility and an open heart, He will provide us with the wisdom and guidance we need. Humility also helps us listen without prejudice and be willing to learn, which allows us to gain proper understanding and discernment. Additionally, a humble spirit helps us to submit to God’s commands and seek His will above all else.

2. Live righteously and obey God’s teachings. To attain wisdom reflects an eagerness to learn, grow, and develop knowledge. The Bible tells us that “the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding” (Proverbs 2:6). Thus, if we ask God for wisdom with a humble and contrite spirit, He will provide us with the understanding we need to acquire it. If we learn to hunger and thirst after righteousness, we will find the motivation we need to pursue Godly wisdom continually. We can only attain knowledge and understanding by constantly striving to learn.

3.  Listen attentively to the Holy Spirit. The Bible tells us to “incline our ear to wisdom” (Proverbs 2:2), which means that we should be attentive and receptive to God’s Word by being open to His instruction, correction, and wise counsel. We can cultivate the wisdom He desires by taking a humble, teachable attitude and learning to listen without prejudice or arrogance. We hear God’s still, small voice better when we approach Him with humility, sincerity, and respect. The Bible tells us that if we “draw near to God, he will draw near to us” James 4:8. Thus, by humbling ourselves in true repentance and prayer, we can create an open and receptive environment for God’s voice to speak to us. By being quiet and learning to listen, we can discern His wisdom and gain knowledge of His ways.

4. Put Godly values at the heart of your decisions. An attentive mind allows us to do what God tells us to do because it enables us to focus on His commands and prioritize following them. The Bible tells us that “whatever God desires, He does.” (Job 23:13). Thus if we strive to understand and obey God’s will through an attentive mind, He can work through us to accomplish His purposes. Additionally, it helps us to be conscious of His voice, heeding His warnings and instruction, which provides us with the knowledge and wisdom we need to make wise choices. (John 10:27)

May the Lord grant us the strength to pursue knowledge, and the insight to go beyond our current understanding.  May we also permit the Holy Spirit to be our guide, our counselor, leading us into all truth? By embracing these teachings, may we all be blessed with the wisdom that comes from the Father.  Amen.
