Prince of Peace

As I have been contemplating what to write about during this beautiful season of celebrating “Christmas” Christ’s birth., I find myself anticipating the desire again to try and say in words what our Christ coming to earth personally means to me.

In the Word Of God Jesus is proclaimed as The Messiah, Mighty God, Wonderful Counselor, Everlasting Father, Emmanuel-(God with Us), Our Deliverer, The Son of The Highest, The Anointed one, The Light of the World, The Bread of Life, The Way, the Truth and the Life, Alpha and Omega, Our Chief Cornerstone, Son of God and son of Man, Our Savior – The Lamb of God, The King of Kings, The Lord of Lords. And, yes, He is the Prince of Peace!

Even at His birth, the angels proclaimed in Luke 2:14, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men.” Christmas always reminds me that Emmanuel, “God with us,” means that when He came to this earth, He brought with Him the true attributes of everlasting Peace, and after He was resurrected and ascended into heaven- He did not leave us as orphans, better still, He gave us the third person of the Trinity as that of the Holy Spirit who dwells with us and within us. Not only are we never alone as the Holy Spirit dwells with us (our Parkletos) But within the dwelling place of those who believe in Him is the precious miracle of the Holy Spirit and one of those wondrous fruits of the Holy Spirit that Jesus gave us was this gift of Peace.

It has been my personal experience that when the Holy Spirit is made manifest amongst us in Spirit-filled worship and prayer, and in an outpouring in meetings of revival/renewal upon His people God comes in His power and love and He also brings His Peace. When I have prayed for people, I have often been told that they feel so much at Peace. Am I able to impart His Peace because I was born and raised in a perfect home where I have never experienced pain or instability and have only known good things to happen? Did or do I now live in a world that denies it hurts, feels rejected, or gets lonely? No, I have not lived a life without trial and pain, nor am I living in denial. I feel and experience deep emotions of all kinds.

My secret lies in knowing God and staying connected with Him as a priority in this life. I have learned that as I give Him my heart, including my deepest emotions, and choose to forgive others quickly and submit all things to His care, He pours out His gift of supernatural Peace to flood my soul. It is this supernatural peace that only He can give that heals our wounded hearts and sets us free.

This kind of Peace comes only from our living God and is a fruit of His Spirit. In the New Testament alone, the word Peace is given 98 times. This kind of Peace is not reliant on world affairs – or whether everything is going just as we want it to in our personal lives. This is a supernatural peace that is not man-made.

We are to be shod with this gospel of Peace,’ and in Ephesians 6:15, Paul says, “and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.” This Peace acts as

a guard over our hearts and minds. Philippians 4:7 has it this way, “and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

This Peace resulted from Jesus bringing salvation and healing to others, just as we, his people, are to bring that same Peace by being filled with the Holy Spirit. By being connected to Him and following His example, as in Mark 5:34, Jesus said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in Peace and be freed from your suffering.”

John 16:33 states “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have [perfect] Peace and confidence.} In the world, you have tribulation, trials, distress, and frustration, but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted!] For I have overcome the world.” (I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.)

The enemy never plays fair, and he brings the total opposite of peace.  John 10:10 New King James Version (NKJV)The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly.” In my personal thought ‘abundance’ in this proclamation means a fullness of every good spiritual fruit and attribute that Jesus Himself freely gives to us through receiving and knowing Him and the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives here on earth, and abundant life for eternity, as we are forever with Him in glory. “He truly delights in us as His beloved and the abundance that comes from knowing Him is beyond description. The thief, this word describes the devil with total accuracy, brings distress, fear, anxiety, hopelessness, dread, restlessness, and all manner of evil things to ultimately destroy us. Whenever I allow these negative things to manifest in my life, I know I must take time to focus on and be with Jesus and I ask Jesus to pour out this special fruit and gift the Holy Spirit has given me, the ‘gift of peace.”

I must keep connected to Him, the true vine. In John 15, it says, “Dwell in Me, and I will dwell in you. [Live in Me, and I will live in you.] Just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in (being vitally united to) the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in Me.”

He has turned my heart of stone into a heart of flesh, and this has made me one who can begin to love and have compassion as He does and to both love Him and love my neighbor through the power of the Holy Spirit who dwells within me. May we always seek to dwell in Him as He dwells in us for this is truly when are transformed into His likeness.

The Father sent His son, and this gift of the Gospel of Peace was brought to us in the deity of this tiny baby Jesus. who came to earth and became the mediator between our Father God and mankind through becoming the perfect lamb of God who was slain for us all.  Our Precious and indescribable gift Jesus Christ – the true gift that brought Peace and Goodwill to all men.

May His perfect love cast out all fear throughout this season and the year ahead and may we be transformed into His likeness as we are shod with the Gospel of Peace. The enemy has been defeated and we can experience Jesus’ peace and abundant joy full of undeniable supernatural glory even amidst the world in chaos around us. Behold the Lamb of God, Emmanuel, The Prince of Peace has come, and we celebrate Him even on this special season and throughout our lives.

It is our prayer that you will know and experience His tangible presence and peace in ever-increasing measures throughout this wonderful season. Merry Christmas to all!
